What is Tibetan Cranial®?

Tibetan Cranial SessionTibetan Cranial is an ancient and unique healing modality that was originally practiced by monks in the Himalayan highlands about 3000 years ago. It combines cranial manipulation with intuition and pulse reading to restore balance and support the nervous system. Gentle pressure is applied to make adjustments to the neck, skull, face, mouth and jaw. Each session is different in response to the information from the recipient’s pulses. It is deeply relaxing and soothing to the nervous system and relief is experienced for a wide range of symptoms including stress, anxiety, neck and back pain, ringing in the ears, vertigo, head trauma, nervous system trauma, concussions, headaches, migraines, and TMJ.

Tibetan Cranial® History

Originally practiced by monks in the Himalayan highlands, Tibetan Cranial was known as “Thoba Khujatag,” which translates to “Skull Moving.” People would travel long distances on foot to receive this work, and it was traditionally done for seven days in a row, each day building on the previous sessions. To this day, it is an oral tradition passed down from teacher to student.

How is Tibetan Cranial® different from Cranial Sacral Therapy?

People ask this question a lot. They both focus on the nervous system, which includes touching the head and neck and both are gentle and relaxing, but beyond that, they are completely different. People who have experienced both will tell you they aren’t alike at all. The following table can help clarify some of the differences.

Intuitive/Spiritual Connection

The spiritual component is a large part of the Tibetan Cranial experience. This doesn’t require any type of religious beliefs or practices, only the simple intent to connect to one’s spirit in whatever way is the most natural and comfortable during the session. This takes people out of their busy minds and truly allows them to relax. People who mediate regularly will easily slip into this space leaving the day-to-day worries of life behind. Having this intention by both the practitioner and the recipient creates the groundwork for being present and allowing the recipient’s body to go back into balance.

What does Tibetan Cranial® Help?

Tibetan Cranial helps increase cerebrospinal fluid, which is the liquid that bathes the entire nervous system, including the spine, and surrounds the brain. This fluid carries all of the nutrients and elements the nervous system requires. It’s the fluid that supports healing as well as carries away waste. Tibetan Cranial is helpful with nervous system disruptions, pains and symptoms such as concussions, brain and spinal cord injuries, headaches, migraines, MS, Parkinson’s, seizures, tinnitus, vertigo, anxiety, jaw pain, TMJ, and neck and back pain.
